Party president will be next PM: Congress
Mumbai: The Congress on Sunday claimed it would come to power at the Centre after the ongoing Lok Sabha polls and that party chief Rahul Gandhi would become the Prime Minister. The Congress statement came after NCP chief Sharad Pawar said TMC leader Mamata Banerjee would be the top contenders for the Prime Minister’s post if the NDA does not get the required numbers.
State Congress spokes-man Sachin Sawant on Sunday said it while reacting to Nr Pawar’s comments in a section of media that Andhra chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, BSP head Mayawati and Ms Banerjee would be the top contenders for the top post if the NDA does not get the required numbers. “Narendra Modi was chief minister of Gujarat before taking over as the PM. In my opinion, since the possibility of the NDA securing a clear majority is remote, Banerjee, Naidu and Mayawati are better options for the PM’s post,” Mr Pawar had told while speaking with one English newspaper.
Mr Pawar also mentioned several times in the past that Mr Gandhi had on many occasions ruled himself out of the prime ministerial race.
