Mumbai: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the class XII results on Sunday. Out of a total of 2,449 students appearing for the exam, 2,123 were successful. Once again, the girls outshone the boys, with an overall pass percentage of 87.50 per cent against the boys’ 78 percent. The results for the city saw students from R.N. Podar International School grab the top ranking spots.

The overall passing ratio of Chennai region, under which Maharashtra falls, stood at 95.32 per cent, while the pass percentage for differently-abled students stood at 86.69 per cent. But this year’s pass percentage stood at 82.02 per cent, showing a slight dip from 83.02 per cent in 2016.

According to Avnita Bir, principal, R.N. Podar School, “It could probably be due to the course correction by the board that stopped the inflation of marks, and the strict moderation when it came to conducting the whole exercise. Not many have scored above 90 percent this year.”

In its latest notification, CBSE has said that the Board will entertain no request for re-evaluation but the process of verification of marks and providing photocopy of answer books will continue.

Around 10 lakh students across 10,673 schools appeared for CBSE’s Class 12 board examination held between March 09 and April 29. Even though the examinations were postponed a week in Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh due to the assembly elections, the results for these states too were announced on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the state board of Maharashtra is also expected to announce the results for the class 12 examinations on the coming Thursday.
