Mumbai: A sessions court in Thane has awarded 20-year jail term to two men for raping a married woman at knife-point. The court said that the prosecution proved its case with “believable evidence and witnesses”.

According to the prosecution, the rape victim, who resided in slums near Kalwa area in Thane with her two children, was living separately from her husband. On May 23, 2016, the two accused, Vikas Avhad (21) and Vishal Tilore (20), who stayed in the same area, forcefully entered her house. Avhad showed her a knife and threatened that she and children would be killed if she resisted. After the raping the woman, the duo locked the door from outside and fled the spot.

The victim immediately called a pastor of a church Shamvel Manegan, who along with his wife and neighbours opened the door. The victim went to the Kalwa police station and registered First Information Report (FIR) against the accused.

The police immediately arrested the duo from their home. The police also recovered the knife and condom, and it’s wrapper from the spot. The police also seized clothes of the accused and the victim.
