Pedestrians get relief by partial opening of delisle
The Delisle Bridge had been shut to vehicular traffic and pedestrians, since Tuesday for re-construction by WR and BMC.
Mumbai: Pedestrians heaved a sigh of relief after the concrete part of Delisle Bridge in Lower Parel was opened to them on Friday evening. However, few pedestrians had mixed reactions.
Vijay Krishna Shirke (71) said, “If we want a new bridge, we should be ready to bear the trouble during the construction time. The decision to open the concrete part was taken after a joint inspection of the structure on Thursday.
The bridge had been shut to vehicular traffic and pedestrians, since Tuesday for re-construction by Western Railway (WR) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials.
Yashwant Pedamkar (72), who is a mill worker and stays in BDD chawl, Delai Road, said, “The opening of the bridge is a good decision, otherwise I had to go to Lower Parel workshop through Mahalakshmi or Sat-Rashta.”
Shamina Ansari (32), a housewife from Mumbra, said, “Although the bridge is opened I didn’t get a respite, as I have to go by walk to Urmi building to get a taxi for Gandhinagar in Worli.”
Vijay Krishna Shrike (71), a commuter, said, “The bridge has been closed down and people have to bare the pain for time being for new bridge. Otherwise one day, we will have to face a tragedy like Ghokhale bridge of Andheri station.”
Pravin Shendekar (25), who has come from Andheri to Lalbaug, said that it is a big relief to pedestrians as the bridge was partiallyopened. The crowd has been reduced on the bridge.
