RPF issues circular to curb incidents of misbehaviour
Mumbai: After a video of a Railway Police Protection (RPF) constable molesting a lady passenger went viral in June, the RPF of Western Railway (WR) has instructed its personnel to behave appropriately.
The chief security commissioner of RPF in WR A.K. Singh issued a circular to all the senior divisional security commissioners (SDSC) regarding the gender sensitivity.
The circular stated that if RPF personnel are accused of sexual harassment then legal action would be initiated against them under IPC and other laws. The circular was issued to SDSC of Mumbai Central, Vado-dara, Ratlam and Ahmedabad divisions.
RPF constable Jangid on June 18 molested a lady passenger at Kalyan station. A co-passenger on the platform captured the incident on her phone and later circulated the video on social media. According to the circular, Jangid’s misconduct has tarnished the image of the force.
The circular further reads, “In order to ensure the RPF personnel did not indulge in such kind of behaviour, the division should organise a security conference, seminar and training programmes. Further, gender sensitisation programmes have been incorporated on job training.”
