Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) claims that there was no waterlogging in the city despite heavy rains over the past few days rang hollow on Monday as its one of its offices at the civic headquarters in CST was flooded, causing inconvenience to the staff.

As incessant rains continued to lash the city, water started accumulating in the changing room of municipal security guards situated near gate number seven.

In the afternoon, the water-level rose to ankle-deep height forcing the security guards to put paver blocks in the gangway so that they can make their way in and out of the room.

Due to the water-logging, the security guards had to change their dresses by climbing on the chairs. Despite labourers being deployed to wipe out the accumulated water, the flooding problem continued to trouble security guards till late in the evening.

“This is the problem, we face every time there is a heavy rainfall. Despite making repeated complaints, it has not been sorted out. We have no option but to face the problem time and again,” said a security guard on the condition of anonymity.

“There is also a possibility of short circuit if electric gadgets come in contact with water. The problem needs to be viewed seriously,” said another security guard.

Meanwhile, several parts of the city witnessed water logging due to heavy rainfall. The vehicular traffic was affected in low lying areas such as Dadar TT, Hindmata, Parel, Kurla, Sion, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Bandra, Andheri Subway and Kazi Sayyad Street.

In Juhu, 50-year old Dinanath Yadav was injured after a part of ceiling of a third floor flat in Samudragupt building was collapsed due to heavy rains. He has been admitted to the Cooper Hospital.
