Drunk man assaults woman cop

A 35-year-old drunk man was brought to the Charkop police station by his mother-in-law for allegedly molesting his sister-in-law.

Mumbai: An inebriated 35-year-old brought to the Charkop police station by his mother-in-law for allegedly molesting his sister-in-law, ended up getting arrested after he assaulted a woman police officer.

The incident occurred at around 9.30am on Thursday and Santosh Kamble was arrested soon after he attacked the woman police officer. Kamble was drunk and had had a spat with his mother-in-law at her house in Mhada colony, Charkop. 

An officer of Charkop police station said, “The family had been complaining to the police about his behaviour and they did the same and brought him to the police station on Thursday. He was still having a squabble with his mother-in-law and after seeing his wife, he was about to attack her. When the woman officer tried to intervene, he attacked her.”

“Kamble not only pushed the woman officer but also slapped her and other police personnel were stunned after witnessing the incident. They rushed to overpower him and took him into custody,” the officer said.

The police had to use force to control Kamble. He was later booked in a criminal case on charges of molestation and assaulting a public servant while performing her duty as per provisions of the Indian Penal Code. Kamble was produced in a local court remanded him to police custody for further investigation.
