2 RTO officials arrested in vehicle racket
Mumbai: Thane police has busted an illegal vehicle-selling racket by two RTO officials. In this connection, Thane Police arrested two RTO officials from Beed district on Tuesday. The vehicle racket reportedly runs into several crore rupees.
A senior police official said that the case against RTO officials was registered 20 days ago. Their arrest was made on September 25.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, deputy commissioner of police (crime) Deepak Deoraj said that Beed RTO Inspectors Rajendra Nikam and Nilesh Nilesh Bhagure were arrested on September 25. Both had facilitated the registration of such vehicles at the Beed RTO.
Mr Deoraj also said that the value of the 34 cars seized so far in connection with the racket was '2.24 crore. The state exchequer had also lost '31.77 lakh in sales tax. The racket possibly extended to states such as Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh.
A case has been registered at Narpoli police station in Bhiwandi.
