Authority to begin work on township next year

The land currently bears reservation which the authorities have to resolve with the state government.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has announced that work for 6,000 low-cost homes at its Pahadi, Goregaon land will take off in the next few months.

The land currently bears reservation which the authorities have to resolve with the state government.

The housing authority took hold of the land after a legal battle of 25 years.

“The Pahadi project which is given to B.G. Shirke group, will start off by January first week. There is an issue of reservation, the plot has been marked as a garden. This problem will be resolved soon with the state and once cleared, the project can start,” said Uday Samant, newly-appointed Mhada chief.

The housing authority states that without the reservation being cleared only 5,000 houses can be built, hence the project is held up.

The authority plans to set-up a township project in the 25 acres land located in Goregaon. The project did not find any takers when tenders were floated this year.

Meanwhile, the Mhada has decided to call for an inquiry against the architect in the Goregaon’s Patra Chawl controversy.

In this case, the developer defaulted inrehabilitating 672 tenants.
