MNS divisional head thrashed by hawkers, admitted to hospital

According to police officials, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, while addressing hawkers Saturday morning, spoke against MNS leaders.

Mumbai: Some hawkers at Malad attacked Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) divisional head Sushant Malavade in the afternoon on Saturday following which, he was taken to Janhavi hospital. Malad police has detained two hawkers.

According to police officials, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam, while addressing hawkers Saturday morning, spoke against MNS leaders. No sooner, Malavade and his workers went to evict the hawkers but the Malad police detained him. After being released in the afternoon, Malavade once again visited the hawkers, getting into an altercation with them, in the course of which, the hawkers allegedly thrashed him. Malavade was immediately admitted to Janhavi hospital. DCP PRO Deepak Devraj said, “There are two persons detained in the matter. We are still investigating and will soon take action.”

Last Saturday, Thane Nagar police arrested MNS city president Avinash Jadhav and four others for evicting hawkers at Thane station.

Meanwhile, around 3.15 pm on Saturday clashes took place between MNS workers and hawkers in Malad. An FIR was registered and four to five MNS workers were detained. Police personnel have been deployed on the spot where clashes took place.
