Uddhav Thackeray hints at alliance, CM Devendra Fadnavis stays mum
Mr Fadnavis hailed the BMC’s efforts at making such a project happen, and said the project was completed in record time.
Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena do not appear to be on the same page when it comes to deciding their partnership for the upcoming civic polls in 2017. While speaking at the inauguration of the new disaster management (DM) department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray hinted at a coalition in the upcoming elections, even as chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was also present at the event, remained mum about it.
“A huge project such as the new disaster management department was successfully completed as the BJP and the Shiv Sena have been working together on such projects for the past 20 years. We will continue to work together to make more such projects happen,” said Mr Thackeray.
Meanwhie, Mr Fadnavis, who praised the BMC’s efforts, did not say anything regarding the BJP’s partnership with the Sena. Mr Fadnavis was the chief guest for the ceremony organised for the inauguration of the new disaster management room, housed at the BMC headquarters in Fort.
Mr Fadnavis hailed the BMC’s efforts at making such a project happen, and said the project was completed in record time. He said, “We have been trying to avoid disasters, but we must be prepared in case one occurs. We must have a standard operating procedure for such an occurrence, and a new disaster management room is one step closer to achieving that goal.”
Mr Thackeray further said, “We are not inaugurating the DM room now because the elections are around the corner. We are doing it because we completed the work in record time.”
Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta said, “The new disaster management room receives live feed from 5,000 cameras set up across the city. This will help us minimise the response time in case of any disaster, and also help us beat crime. Apart from this, all 24 ward offices also have DM rooms, and there are 51 hotlines, which are connected to Navy, Army and hospitals, in case help from them is needed.”
