Consumer body wants RERA appellate tribunal

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to take immediate steps in the matter.

Mumbai: After taking the lead in implementing the Real Estate Regulation Act (RERA) in Maharashtra, the state government is yet to establish an appellate tribunal under section 43 (1) of the Act within a period of one year, according to Mumbai Grahak Panchayat (MGP) president, Shirish Deshpande.

Mr Deshpande has sent a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to take immediate steps in the matter.

MGP has alleged that despite a lapse of nearly 19 months, there is no RERA appellate tribunal set up in the state, yet.

After May 1, 2017, the adjudicating officer and MahaRERA have pronounced several orders under RERA. Now, all appeals are directly going before the high court because the appellate authority has not been set up.

According to the MGP, this is unnecessary harassment for home buyers apart from being expensive.
