Agripada cops hand over CCTV footage
Mumbai: The civic-run Nair hospital’s authorities have handed over the CCTV footage of the incident to the Agripada police, which is probing the death of Rajesh Maru.
According to the deputy commissioner of police, the police is currently analysing the CCTV footage to ascertain the role of all those who were on duty and others who were supposed to be there but were not present to ensure that the safety protocols were adhered to.
Talking to The Asian Age, Virendra Mishra, DCP zone 3, said, “The investigation is underway. We are analysing the CCTV footage and accordingly, the action will be taken against those who are found to be guilty for negligence.”
“An FIR was registered and Dr Saurabh Lanjekar (24), ward boy Vitthal Chavan (35) and ward attendant Sunita Surve have been arrested under Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code,” he added.
According to Jagdish Maru, the uncle of the deceased, Rajesh’s body was trapped in the machine; the oxygen cylinder had opened up and was leaking. He said, “After hearing the commotion, we all rushed inside the room and pulled him out of the machine. The powerful magnetic field of the machine had pulled Rajesh towards it along with the cylinder.”
The family of the deceased has claimed that the ward boy had said that the machine was off and the oxygen cylinder could be carried in the room. The medical officer has said that Maru died to inhaling liquid oxygen that is poisonous in excessive amount.
