Maharashtra sees slightly better voting percentage

Mumbai: Maharashtra has witnessed a slight increase in its polling percentage — from 60.32 per cent in 2014 to 60.68 per cent.

However, the polling percentage in 17 seats of phase four is 57 per cent, while it was 55.59 per cent in 2014. Mumbai city and its suburbs also witnessed a sharp increase of four per cent. Mumbai has seen a 55.11 per cent turnout, which was 51.59 per cent in 2014.

Addressing a press conference at Mantralaya on Monday, Maharashtra chief electoral officer (CEO) Ashwini Kumar said that there were 8,85,64,098 voters in the state. Out of these, 5,37,41,204 citizens have exercised their voting rights.

"We have observed that despite of scorching heat on all the polling dates, the voters passionately participated in the electoral process of casting their votes," he said.
