MBMC officer booked for seeking bribe

Mumbai: A junior engineer attached to the anti-encroachment wing of the local ward office (number six) in Mira Road has been booked by the Thane unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau for demanding a bribe of two lakh from a 38-year-old person for not taking action against the renovation and reconstruction work which had been undertaken at his hotel in Ghodbunder near Kashimira. However no arrests have been made so far in the case.

The accused identified as — Shailesh Shinde had labelled the construction work as illegal, despite permissions and approvals procured from authorities, as claimed by the complainant.  The engineer had earned notoriety for his corrupt practices to shelter and encourage illegal constructions, sources said.

Shinde had been threatening the complainant to comply with his demands or face consequence’s in the form of demolition.

The ACB team led by police inspector -Vaishali Raaskar, verified the authenticity of the complaint and registered an offence against the accused engineer  at the Kashimira police station on Friday. While further investigations were on into the case the accused engineer is yet to be arrested.
