Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Friday compared the Nanar green refinery project to Adof Hitler’s gas chambers in an editorial, which appeared in Saamana, the party mouthpiece. “Just like Hitler killed lakhs of Jews by putting them in gas chambers, this government is doing same with the people of Konkan,” he said. Mr Thackeray also said its implementation was akin to an “Emergency” imposed on the people. The party challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to try and set up the project in the state. It said the Sena would fight it with all its might.

The Sena has been opposing the project and Mr Thackeray even visited the location and assured protesters that his party would take up the fight on their behalf. However, this has not stopped the Union government from pushing the project. Earlier this week, petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhaan attended an agreement signing function with two foreign companies in Delhi for setting up the refinery. This has further irked Mr Thackeray and he slammed the goverment through the editorial.

“Environment activists, villagers, political workers keep opposing the project. But governments are not bothered and they keep pushing the. Still if this project is being pushed, then it is an emergency. This is the dictatorship of the Modi and Fadnavis governments,” it says. It further slammed PM Modi, saying, “People could die. But the king elected by people must live on. This is the approach of the present government. Farmers are being pushed to die in Konkan. This is the killing of the Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan slogan.”
