A case was registered at the Navghar police station.

Mumbai: A fortnight after four persons allegedly robbed a project-affected villager from Telangana of Rs 10 lakh, under the pretext of offering cheap gold bars, the Navghar police nabbed them on Friday.

The complainant —Anjaya Kuntha, a native of Chintaltana village in Telangana ran a toddy-shop in Pune after his family was displaced due to the construction of a dam in the region. As per the rehabilitation package, Mr Kuntha got a piece of land in the nearby Vemlawada village and monetary compensation of Rs 17 lakh. Kuntha came into contact with Kalyan resident — Pappu Somaiya via his Pune-based relative. Boasting about his influential contacts, Somaiya and his friend Sunil offered gold bars cheaper than the market rates.

Before closing the deal, when Kuntha insisted on verifying the authenticity of the gold bar, the miscreants diverted his attention by picking up a quarrel and left the place in a hurry before he could realize that the bag containing the cash had also vanished.
