Eyeing polls, CM gives nod to 3 big ticket infrastructure projects

Fadnavis has asked officials to begin work on these projects within a month.

Mumbai: With an eye on the Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections in 2019, the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis-led cabinet subcommittee on infrastructure on Wednesday cleared big ticket projects in Mumbai. The committee has given its nod to the Bandra-Versova sea link project, third bridge on Vashi creek and a new lane (missing link) on Mumbai-Pune expressway. Mr Fadnavis has asked officials to begin work on these projects within a month.

The Bandra-Versova sea link would be three times the length compared to the Bandra-Worli sea link. A separate lane would also be constructed to connect the sea link with the Western Express Highway. A new road would be constructed from Bandra railway station through Western Express Highway, which would connect to Versova sea link at Nana Nani Park.

The Vashi creek’s third bridge, which has also got the sub-committee's nod, would ease traffic. To avoid traffic congestion at Vashi toll naka, it would be expanded to clear vehicles immediately.

The panel cleared the construction of a new lane from Khopoli to Khandala section.
