Give jobs to victims kin, says Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil

In the tragic incident, 23 people were killed and 39 were injured in the stampede at Elphinstone railway station.

Mumbai: Senior Congress leader and leader of the Opposition in Assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil raised question over the needy people in Elphinstone Road (now Prabhadevi) stampede have not been provided a job even after the tragedy has completed a year. Mr Patil asked why the needy victims of the stampede and their families been not availed employment in railways? He had written a letter in this connection to the railway minister Piyush Goyal on October 3, 2017.

Mr Vikhe-Patil said this shows the government’s insensitivity towards the tragedy.

On the completion of a year on Elphinstone road tragedy, the leader of Opposition in Assembly paid homage to the victims. He said, “Many families have lost their sole bread earners. Hence, the survey should be conducted of the injured and deceased’s families. One of the family members should be given a job in railway.”

He also said, “In this connection, a letter, which was written to Mr Goyal, had been given personally to the additional general manager of WR, Rahul Jain. In fact, we have also requested chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to pursue the matter with the railway. But not a single family have been given a job till date.”
