Mumbai call centre scam: Five want to be approvers
Mumbai: The Thane police is set to file its chargesheet in the Thane call centre scam case by Thursday, which will include testimonies from five employees-cum-friends of the alleged mastermind, 23-year-old Sagar Thakkar aka Shaggy. The five witnesses are willing to turn approvers, said sources. The chargesheet will have 175 statements, including those of 60 prosecution witnesses and a few United States-based victims.
As part of the scam, employees of nine call centres located in Mira Road had allegedly extorted American citizens in the name of their tax and immigration authorities. The police arrested 72 such employees and their roles will be mentioned in the chargesheet.

We are waiting for Forensic Science Laboratoy report to come of the hard disks that we had seized from call centre offices in Mira Road.”
The official added, “There is evidence of the employees cheating people. We have mentioned details about every employee such as how many people he had cheated and how much he was earning.”
The officer further added that five close aides of Thakkar were likely to apply for turning approver. In this chargsheet, the Thane police also added the statements and documents sent by a detective agency from New Jersey, which contacted the Thane police to help it in its investigation.
