900 trains called off by Harbour line since December 22
Mumbai: The Central Railway’s (CR) Harbour line has seen a total of 900-odd trains being cancelled since the series of blocks were imposed from December 22 onwards. The final block wrapped up at 7 am on Friday morning. The blocks were extended twice after CR failed to complete work related to the Seawoods-Uran line. This was also the first time that the Harbour line block was wrapped up before the time, that is by 6.45 am but services saw a constant delay throughout the day.
The CR has cancelled 100 services every day since the past seven days but the Harbour also saw innumerable delays as a result of the block. According to an official, “To be honest, we have not yet exactly tried to find out how many cancellations. But we are sure they are well past the 900 mark, in fact they might be even beyond that number.”
As reported by The Asian Age in a report published on December 29, the work related to the Seawoods-Uran line went out of control even after a 13-hour block on Christmas day. The CR saw delays because of the snapping of the overhead wire due the incomplete work.
Another official said that Harbour line is likely to see a similar block from Saturday night to Sunday, or again sometime in the week. “The work is not completed, so we might see another block, some finishing touches still remain to be done.”
