Cops search for unidentified man in Bhayander murder case

Deepika's body was found in her flat's hall while Hetavi's body was found wrapped in a bed sheet inside the bed storage unit.

Mumbai: Thane rural’s Navghar police, which is probing the case involving murder of a 29-year-old call-centre employee Deepika Sanghvi and her eight-year-old daughter, on Saturday questioned the deceased woman’s ex husband Kartik Sanghvi to ascertain his role in the crime, if any.

Police is also verifying leads provided by Mr Kartik who divorced Deepika two years ago – about an unidentified man seen visiting Deepika’s building around the same time the murders occurred as per CCTV footage. The unidentified man is on the run, having switched off his cell phone. A senior Navghar police official while requesting anonymity told The Asian Age, “We are also suspecting Mr Kartik as he used to give a monthly alimony of Rs 7,000 for his daughter Hetavi after his divorce from Deepika.”

“We are verifying details about the absconding man seen leaving the mother-daughter’s building on Thursday. We are verifying if he had an argument with Deepika that day. We are trying to establish the nature of the relationship that existed between Deepika and the absconding man. As per Kartik, the absconding man was a friend of Deepika,” the official said.

Deepika stayed in a rented flat with Hetavi in Bhayander east. Deepika’s body was found in her flat’s hall while Hetavi’s body was found wrapped in a bed sheet inside the bed storage unit. Police is awaiting the deceased duo’s autopsy reports.

One of the neighbours of the deceased duo told this newspaper, “Hetavi was a lively girl and gelled very well with the other kids in the building.”
