Mumbai: There will be no re-examination for the class X mathematics paper in the Mumbai region, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on Friday. However, re-examination for the class XII economics paper will be held across the country on April 25.

Union education secretary Anil Swarup made the announcement after receiving a negative response from parents and students about conducting re-examinations of the leaked papers. This week, two CBSE papers were leaked on social media websites and WhatsApp in Delhi an hour before the examination. Immediately after the incident, on Wednesday, the board announced that both exams would be conducted again for students, to "uphold the sanctity of the board examinations and in the interest of fairness to students". However, negative reactions from parents and students forced the board to revoke its decision.

Parents in Mumbai protested in Borivali and one of them said, ''It did not make sense to re-conduct examinations for something that happened in Delhi."

However, parents and students welcomed CBSE’s decision not to conduct re-exams for class X. Meghana Kavi, a class X CBSE student, said, “We took months to prepare for our examinations. So, even the thought of doing it all over for a re-exam scared us. Now, we are relaxed and very happy.” The board will hold re-examination for class X students only in Delhi, NCR and Haryana after a detailed inquiry. The board and the Delhi crime branch are investigating the paper leak. For class XII students the economics paper will be held on April 25 across the country. Mr Swarup clarified that no exams would be conducted for NRI students.
