Mumbai: With no clarity on the motive behind the murder of Atharva Shinde, the son of a Mumbai police officer, the crime branch is now likely to refer the case to a panel of experts for clarity on the findings of the autopsy report. The officials said that the opinions of the doctors and other experts would help unravel the mystery.
The statements recorded by officials of unit 6 of the crime branch have not hinted at any specific reason for Atharva’s murder. The police also recorded the statement of Atharva’s female friend, who is in hospital ever since the murder. She said that there was no animosity among anyone there. “While we are awaiting the viscera report and other scientific analysis reports, the victim's autopsy findings are not helping in getting to the root of the possible motive. The statements have also not led us to any arguments or fight among the youngsters who were there,” said a crime branch officer.
The autopsy reports have revealed multiple injuries on Atharva’s body, contortion marks near his ribs, and deep cuts on his private parts. The police has also scanned the CCTV footage but neither the statements nor the CCTV footage has been of any help.
The victim had been to a party at bungalow 212 in Aarey Colony on May 7. He was found dead in the morning of May near a lake located at a distance from the bungalow. The investigators added that there were some discrepancies in the statements recorded by officials of unit 6.
