Binoy Kodiyeri's DNA test: Police collects blood samples
Mumbai: The Oshiwara police collected blood samples for the DNA test of Binoy Kodiyeri, son of Kerala CPI (M) leader accused of raping a woman whom he allegedly met in Dubai.
The blood samples could be collected after the Bombay high court order Monday asking Binoy to provide the blood samples immediately.
Based on the court order, the police was allotted a three hours’ slot every Monday for questioning Binoy in connection with the case. The police had been trying to collect the DNA samples from Binoy as per the court orders, however could not.
There were unconfirmed reports that Binoy was citing “ill health” for not providing the samples. “We have collected the blood samples. We will submit a report on Binoy’s interrogation,” said an officer of Oshiwara police station.
The Oshiwara police had served notice to Binoy on July 15 to give his blood samples for undergoing a DNA test. The notice was served after the police allegedly made several attempts to seek blood samples from Binoy, who could be questioned four times in connection with the case.
The 33-year-old woman filed a case of rape against Binoy on June 13. The woman, who is a native of Bihar, alleged that the accused exploited her for years and later left her with their child. In her complaint, she revealed that they first met at a dance bar in Dubai in 2008.
On July 3, Binoy was granted anticipatory bail in the case on a personal bond of '25,000 on grounds that he would undergo the DNA test, not threatening the complainant or witnesses or tampering with the prosecution evidence. Binoy was also ordered not to leave the country without the permission of the trial court.
