CBI examines Nair doctor as prosecution witness

These remained unattended till the Khar police registered a case of murder in 2015 and sought them during the investigation.

Mumbai: The CBI Friday examined a Nair Hospital doctor, who had removed the teeth and femur bone from Sheena Bora’s body and sent them for forensic tests.

Meanwhile, the Judge expressed displeasure over journalists speaking to Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the 2012 Sheena Bora murder case, and asked them to refrain from doing so.

CBI counsel Ejaz Khan Friday examined professor S.C. Mohite, head of department, forensic medicine, Nair Hospital, as a prosecution witness. Professor Mohite confirmed to the court that the remains — found from Pen village and identified as Sheena’s body part – were that of a woman. Professor Mohite had removed the teeth and femur bone from the skeleton and sent it for forensic examination.

Readers may recall that according to the prosecution, Sheena Bora was murdered in 2012 but a case of murder was registered only in 2015. Further, the Pen police sent some bones and samples for examination to J.J. Hospital in 2012, when remains of a body were found there.

However, these remained unattended till the Khar police registered a case of murder in 2015 and sought them during the investigation.

Professor Mohite’s examination will continue Saturday. Meanwhile, CBI Judge J.C. Jagdale expressed annoyance at Ms Mukerjea’s comment on P. Chidambaram’s arrest. Ms Mukerjea told journalists that Mr Chidambaram’s arrest was “good news”.

The Judge asked her not to repeat such comments in future.
