An eleven-year-old boy, who was running on the railway tracks to catch a flying kite with four other friends, lost his life after he was hit by a speeding local train in Vile Parle near Parle biscuit factory, killing him on Friday morning. Fearing they would be beaten up, the deceased’s friends lied to everyone, saying that he had died in a fatal hit-and-run accident where he was hit by a BMW. The Vile Parle police uncovered the truth in a few hours.

According to the police, the deceased, Vikas Umesh Chandra Gaur, is a resident of Shanti Nagar Gaon in Sahar area of Vile Parle. The accident occurred at 11.30 am on the railway tracks near the Parle factory. The four friends of Gaur are around fourteen years of age and they are all from the same area.

“They came a long distance from their residence and got on to the tracks to get a flying kite. The deceased was hit by the train and suffered a grievous head injury. His friends rushed him to Cooper Hospital in a rickshaw but he died on the way. They then cooked up a story that the accident took place near their residence where a BMW hit him and sped away,” said a police official from the Vile Parle station.

“We made them sit in the police station for few hours and checked the CCTV cameras in the area and spoke to people to get leads. Meanwhile, one of them got scared and came up to us saying he wanted to speak the truth. He then narrated their ordeal,” said the officer. An accidental death report will be filed. Gaur’s family comprises of his father — a vegetable vendor, his mother, a brother and a sister.
