In a twist in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts trial, an accused in the case has expressed his desire to turn approver and the special TADA court has asked CBI to file its reply in this regard by the next date of hearing.

One of the accused, Firoz Khan, on Thursday informed special judge G.A. Sanap that he wanted to turn approver in the case. Following this, the judge asked CBI to file its reply by June 6.

Currently, the trial is at its fag-end and the prosecution is putting forth final arguments to prove its case against the seven accused facing trial.

Prosecution has already examined its witnesses and defence too has called some witnesses to prove innocence of the accused. The special court in August completed recording statements of the accused under provisions of section 313 of the Code of Criminal Procedure under which an accused is given an opportunity to personally explain any circumstances appearing in the evidence against him.

Khan’s defence was that he was arrested due to mistaken identity. He claimed that he was Hamza however, according to sources, he wrote to the court about his desire to turn approver from jail and on Thursday, he himself informed the same to the judge in open court.
