21-year-old killed in drunk driving accident
Despite the Mumbai traffic police joining hands with the Mumbai police to prevent drunk driving incidents, a youngster driving under the influence of alcohol was killed on Western Express Highway (WEH) in Jogeshwari (east) and three more youngsters who were with the deceased were injured, one seriously.
Joint commissioner of police, traffic, Milind Bharambe said its special drive ended at 6 am while the fatal accident, according to the Jogeshwari police, occurred at 6.30 am.
Despite the traffic police cracking down on helmetless driving and arresting thousands of offenders this year for the same, the youth who lost his life, Yogesh Parab, died of severe head injuries, as he was not wearing a helmet at the time.
The incident took place on the southbound stretch of WEH on a steep turn near Shankarwadi bus stop. Parab (21) was driving a Yamaha R15, which was gifted to him by his father. His friend Sunny Joseph (21) was riding in the pillion.
Parab was among the group of eight bikers with pillion riders. Parab was from Ambika Nagar area of Jogeshwari and most of the group was from the same area. They had decided to go on a night out after getting drunk at a party in their area.
Parab and his friends had gotten drunk and were roaming around on bikes all night. They then decided to go to Bandra and this is when the accident occurred.
