The Mumbai police arrested a Nigerian national, who had registered a complaint against two other Nigerian nationals for grievously assaulting him, when the police learnt that the complainant himself was wanted for a fortnight in a cyber crime fraud and cheating case. The police also arrested the two Nigerian nationals who had assaulted him. All three Nigerians are now in police custody, confirmed senior police inspector Dattatray Bargude of the Khar police station.

According to Khar police on November 7 a Nigerian national was brutally beaten by two Nigerian nationals and robbed of valuables over borrowing of money in Khar (west). The complainant ran a garment business and had given Rs 20,000 to one of the two accused as they knew each other and had business relations.

The complainant was asking for his money back but the duo was not ready to return it. The complainant said in his statement that the duo called him on November 7 on the pretext of returning his money and asked him to come to Khar (west).

Accordingly, around 7.30 pm, the complainant reached near Andhra Bank, 24th road but the two accused ganged up and started assaulting him. One of the accused used a paver block while the second accused pulled out a part of iron jack from his Maruti Swift and assaulted him. The complainant suffered about five stitches on his head and was admitted to Holy Family Hospital in Bandra The duo fled with complainant’s 18-gm gold chain worth Rs 42,000, a mobile phone worth Rs 25,000 and Rs 22,500 in cash. “We have recovered the Maruti Swift Desire, a paver block and iron rod which was used in the crime. We will recover rest of the valuables,” said Mr Bargude. The duo has been booked under Sections 397 (robbery, or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 506 (criminal intimdation) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC.
