56 passengers stranded as conductor gets assaulted
About 56 passengers were left stranded in the middle of their journey after the BEST bus they were traveling in had to be halted as the conductor was allegedly assaulted by three men over a petty issue in Jogeshwari (east) on Saturday. While two goons fled from the spot, the third went and hid in the toilet of a private building from where the police nabbed him.
According to the MIDC police, the incident occurred around 11.20 am near Greenfield society bus stop on Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road in Jogeshwari (east). The incident not only halted the traffic on the road but also caused major inconvenience to the passengers traveling in it. All of them were asked to get down and travel in another BEST bus that was following their bus.
The complainant Bhupendra Sonar who was the conductor of the BEST bus said, “The goons got in and asked for a ticket of a bus stop in Powai. I told them it was going to Ghatkopar. Over this they started an argument after which they assaulted me. First, one of them hit me and soon other two joined in. There are witnesses to the incident.”
“The bus was stopped and the driver caught hold of the two goons. When they learnt that police has been informed, they ran off. The MIDC police nabbed one from the toilet of a private building,” added Mr Sonar.
An FIR has been filed and the accused Salman Khan, a driver and Govandi resident, has been let off on a cash bail of Rs 15,000.
