After Malwani triple murder, one is detained
A day after three murders came to light in Malwani, the police is on the lookout for three “suspicious” people including a woman who were caught on CCTV camera from near the murder site.
They have questioned around 15 people in connection with the case and detained the son-in-law Ismail Shaikh of one of the deceased, 47-year-old Babli Shaw. Commenting on the investigation, an official said on condition of anonymity, “We have not given a clean chit to Ismail yet but it does not look like that he had committed the murder and we are suspecting that the deceased were killed over personal rivalry. We are questioning Babli’s tenants and relatives and are not releasing anyone now.”
The CCTV footage was recovered from a shop near Babli’s house and the police is now trying to identify the people caught on camera.
According to sources from the police, they received information that Babli was running a prostitution racket from her house in New Collector Colony, Malwani gate number six. She had apparently given a floor of her two-storey chawl on rent to transgenders while carrying out a sex racket in the second floor. The police therefore suspects that a customer might have killed her.
The police investigation has also revealed that Babli’s daughter was a bar singer and had met Ismail in the bar where they fell in love and got married.
Initially Babli was opposed to their relationship but she let Ismail stay with them so the police is also checking on Ismail as a possible suspect.
Around 1.50 am on Thursday, Babli and two of her grandchildren were stabbed around 13 times. Their bodies were discovered around 10.30 am by Babli’s neighbours.
