Alok Nath’s son caught for drunk driving

Dumping all sanskar at bay, Alok Nath’s son Shivang (24) tried to flee when he was stopped by the Santa Cruz (west) police for drunk driving on Monday night. The alcohol level in Shivang’s blood was nine times higher than the permissible limit.

The brash star kid was arrested for drunk driving and taken to the Santa Cruz police station, where he was fined Rs 2,600. Investigating officers from the traffic department revealed that they were shocked to see Shivang in that state.

“We asked him to blow into the breathanalyser and in two blows itself, the reading was 286 mg, way above the 30 mg permissible limit under the Motor Vehicles Act,” said an investigating officer.

Santa Cruz police station senior police inspector Shantanu Pawar said that when asked to show his licence, Shivang claimed he had forgotten it at home.

“He has a valid licence but was not carrying it last night,” he said.

After being booked, Shivang was asked to pay a fine of Rs 2,600 and his vehicle impounded by the Mumbai traffic police, Bandra division. He was asked to be present in court on Tuesday morning. The Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Tuesday let Shivang go off with a mere warning. He was booked under section 185 and 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Senior officers from the traffic department were disappointed with the court’s decision. “Seeing the severity of his blood alcohol content, we had asked for strict action and suspension of his licence. We even told the court how he tried to flee and verbally abused the policemen, but the court only asked us if he had any past records against his name. It then gave him a warning,” said an officer on the condition of anonymity.

Shivang said to be studying filmmaking and acting in a city school was on his way home from a friend's birthday party in South Mumbai, when the cops stopped him. “I asked him to roll down the window and tell me his name. He rolled down the window, but suddenly swerved and fled towards Bandra,” said a traffic constable.

The on-duty policemen gave a chase and nabbed Shivang on SV Road in Santacruz. The inebriated star kid was on his way home to Lokhandwala, Andheri and accompanied by four friends including two women. He was driving a Ford Eco Sports car (MH-02 DN8446). “His friends started arguing with us. One of the women claimed that she was driving the car. So our policemen from the nakabandi reached the station and confirmed it was Shivang in the driver’s seat,” an official said.

Sources said Shivang visited the traffic police, Bandra division office and took his car home on Tuesday afternoon.
