A 15-year-old girl has lodged a complaint with the Nehru Nagar police stating that she was raped by a rickshaw driver and molested by another on June 13. Nehru Nagar police officials have arrested the man who raped the minor girl; however, the person who molested her is absconding.
The girl, a resident of Kurla, came down to her building gate at around 2 am to say goodbye to her best friend as he was taking the morning train to his village where he was going to stay for one month. A neighbour happened to see the two of them talking to each other and threatened the girl that he would inform her family members.
“The girl got scared, left the building and went near Kurla bus stand where a rickshaw driver saw her and told her that she should go home and that he would drop her home. However, the rickshaw driver took her to an isolated area in Kurla and molested her when she started shouting for help. Some people heard her cries and came to her rescue after which, these people and the same rickshaw driver dropped her at the main road. At this point, another rickshaw driver who was passing by told her that if she did not want to go home, she could stay with his family. The fellow took her to Bandra and allegedly raped her in a remote area,” said Nehru Nagar police officials.
“The driver left her at the spot and then fled the place. The injured girl who was in pain tried to get home. She told her father everything that had transpired and later, they came to Nehru Nagar police station to file a complaint,” said the officials.
API D. Raut of Nehru Nagar police station said, “We have arrested the second rickshaw driver. Medical test of both appeared positive. The girl is under treatment at Sion hospital. We have registered a case under sections of the IPC and POCSO.”
