Bhumata activists held, released later in Kolhapur over agitation against inspector
Bhumata Brigade activists, including its president Trupti Desai, were arrested and released in Kolhapur on Saturday when they agitated and demanded the suspension of a police inspector and arrest of other accused.
Ms Desai and other women were allegedly attacked on April 13 in the sanctum of Ambabai Temple in Kolhapur. They had gone to seek darshan from the sanctum. Some persons were arrested, but Ms Desai accused the police of shielding other attackers, who could be seen in the CCTV footage, and demanded action against them and the police officer responsible for this inaction. “We were given a notice by the police today morning stating that our agitation was illegal, when we arrived for our sit-in in front of the Juna Rajwada police station,” Ms Desai said on Saturday.
