BJP will change UP’s face in 5 years: Rajnath Singh

Union home minister Rajnath Singh said if voted to power, the BJP would change the face of UP in five years.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh said if voted to power, the BJP would change the face of UP in five years. He, however, skirted the issue of migration of Hindus that had kicked off a controversy in June this year when BJP MP Hukum Singh claimed that 346 families had been forced to migrate from the township which is predominantly Muslims.

The MP had later denied that the reasons for migration were “communal” in nature. He, however, slammed the SP government for the poor law and order situation in the state.

Referring to the ongoing infighting in the SP, Mr Singh said, “Though it is not proper to comment on anyone’s family dispute but this time, it is the people of UP who are paying the price of a family war. If the SP cannot solve its disputes, it should recommend early elections because the development process is being affected.”

He further said that the BJP had proved its ability to give good governance and a corruption free government. “Two and a half years of Modi government have not seen a single charge of corruption. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated a large number of welfare schemes for the people and has brought glory to the country in the global world”. He said that several scams had taken place in the previous UPA government but the Modi government had held up its clean image. “Even when the BJP was in power in Uttar Pradesh, there was not a single corruption charge against our chief ministers”, he said. BSP president Mayawati, meanwhile, reacted sharply to Mr Singh’s claims of development and said in a statement that her governments had ensured all round development and did not cater to the interests of capitalists and industrialists like the Modi government is doing. She further said that if the BJP had done true development, it would not have felt the need to ‘do the drama of taking out Parivartan yatras in the state’.
