BMC directory same since 2012

Sunil Prabhu is the mayor of the city, while Sitaram Kunte is still the chief of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Prithviraj Chavan is the chief minister of Maharashtra, whereas K Sankaranarayanan is still the governor of the state.

Do not get startled. Even after relinquishing these above-mentioned posts long ago, these persons continue to hold them in the telephone directory of BMC’s official portal www.mcgm.gov.in.

If you are on the BMC’s website, you will find the section ‘MCGM Directory’ at the bottom of left hand corner. Click it and you will find that the BMC has not bothered to update the telephone directory on its portal for the past four years. The contents of this directory are from way back from the year 2012.

A lot of water has flown under the bridge in these four years. Mr Prabhu, who has now been elected as a MLA in the state Legislative Assembly, quit the post of mayor in 2014 and since then Snehal Ambekar has been the first citizen of the city. Mr Kunte has now been appointed as the principal secretary of state government’s planning department. Ajoy Mehta took over as the civic chief over a year back.

In between, there was a change in the state government too, with the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance coming to power by uprooting the Congress-NCP regime. Devendra Fadnavis has replaced Mr Chavan as the chief minister, whereas C. Vidyasagar Rao succeeded Mr Sankaranarayanan as the governor.

While details of the deliberative wing and administrative wing have been updated on the BMC website, the telephone directory, which contains the numbers of officials concerned, has been found lacking.

Civic activist Godfrey Pimenta said, “I went through the civic website as I wanted to have number of some of the officials. But the directory was showing old details, which is absolutely unacceptable. What is the use of this useless telephone directory ”

To support its IT vision, the BMC had made a provision of approximately Rs 896 crore during the years 2013-14 and 2014-15.
