The opposition Congress and NCP are ready with ammunition on issues such as the government’s failure to tackle drought, “corruption” by ministers and increased incidents of attack on police in the state, to raise against the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena combine in upcoming Budget Session of the Assembly. The session will begin on March 9.

The session will begin with Governor C Vidyasagar Rao’s address to a joint session of the Upper and Lower House on March 9. According to opposition Congress and NCP, they have sufficient issues against the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena alliance and will raise it in both the Houses.

According to Dhananjay Munde, leader of Opposition in State Legislative Council, the state did not take action against five “corrupt” ministers including school education minister Vinod Tawde, tribal development minister Vishnu Savra and women and child welfare minister Pankaja Munde. “We had exposed how these ministers were involved in corruption and demanded enquiry and their resignation during the Winter Session held at Nagpur in last December. But nothing had happened. In fact, we feel that Devendra Fadnavis government is shielding these corrupt ministers,” said Mr Munde.

“We will continue with our issues in the upcoming Budget Session as well as raise new issues including drought, law and order situation in the state and the failure of the Make in India event,” he added.

Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, leader of Opposition in state legislative Assembly, said the Fadnavis government had failed to resolve the drought situation and in his regime the police are safe.

“Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis held a Cabinet meeting at Latur on Friday. It was nothing but the eyewash as there was nothing new in his assurance given at the press conference,” Mr Vikhe-Patil said.

The farmers need immediate help as unseasonal rain and hailstorm in part of North Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbh ruined Rabbi crops, added Mr Vikhe-Patil. “CM has not take any cognisance of these affected farmers,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ramraje Naik-Nimbalkar, chairman of Upper House and Haribhau Bagade, Speaker of the Lower House have called a joint meeting of ruling and opposition party leaders on Tuesday at 12 pm.
