Careless flyers necessitate full security checks at airport
There have been several instances this month when carelessness on the part of passengers or those coming to drop off or receive them has necessitated entire security checks to be conducted by airport authorities.
For instance, in the early hours of August 15, a car was found unclaimed right outside the terminal building of the domestic airport, where it should not have been parked in the first place. Apparently, on August 14, a person reached the airport to receive a passenger and left his car (Maruti) opposite the arrival gate of domestic airport terminal building around 4 am, going to a nearby hotel for some snacks. The airport security agency, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), noticed the car and checked it. Later when the person reappeared around 5.30 am, he was fined by the airport parking team before being allowed to go home. He revealed that he had parked his car near the terminal building to avoid paying parking fees of '110.
A few days prior to this incident, a car was stopped by private security officials of Mumbai airport as its number plate was broken. After checking the vehicle, an air gun was found inside. The driver was later released after paying a penalty for breaking traffic rules (broken number plate). On August 13, a match box was found near the departure gate of the domestic terminal while on August 9, a few SIM cards were found lying near the departure gate which were seized after a thorough security check.
