CBI gets swanky new building at BKC

Departments spread across various premises to come together.

Departments spread across various premises to come together.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will now be able to operate out of its own building in Mumbai and all its departments will soon be shifted to the new building at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

Earlier, the various CBI departments were functioning from a number of rented premises all over the city. Anil Sinha, director of the CBI said he was happy that the CBI got its own office where all its departments could work together. He has also urged all CBI officers to be more responsive to complainants and informants.

Mr Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated the new office building of the CBI in the presence of the commissioner of Mumbai police and other senior officers. “The new office building will not only provide CBI officials a conducive ambience but also encourage them to achieve higher efficiency,” said Mr Sinha.

He urged the officers to work harder to give better services and be more responsive to complainants and informants. Witnesses should feel safe and be protected, he added. He expressed hope that the new office complex would facilitate better coordination among all the branches of CBI. “The CBI started as an anti-corruption agency; its scope has increased over the last few decades to include economic offences, serious frauds and sensational cases under the IPC. The CBI is now a federal investigative agency, which can investigate most of the offences that affect public life in general and which have a direct bearing on the quality of life of the common man. For this, the officials need better facilities and better condition to work in,” said Mr Sinha.

The director said he hoped the quality of work would improve. The CBI building is a 13-storey green building built at a cost of Rs 103 crore.

The building has various facilities, including solar power provision, power efficient sensor-based lighting and centralised air conditioning, double glass unit for natural light and power efficiency, an auditorium, a regional training centre, conference rooms, scientific interrogation rooms, canteen, rainwater harvesting, fire alarm system and fire fighting system, sewerage treatment plant, RO water filtration and library.
