CCTVs capture fatal mishap in Wadala
The newly installed closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are said to have captured a fatal accident in Wadala area of Central Mumbai, where a biker was killed after a truck hit him on Saturday evening.
The CCTV cameras have been installed only in south Mumbai, but Wadala comes under the port zone in the south region of the Mumbai police and hence it was covered under CCTV surveillance recently.
According to the Wadala police, the fatal accident took place at around 4.30 pm at Godrej Junction.
The deceased, Mohamad Akbar Alamgir Shaikh (36), an embroidery worker, is a resident of Govandi and survived by his wife and children.
Shaikh was on his way to meet his sister in Byculla when the heavy vehicle hit him at the junction.
Both vehicles were said to be moving parallel to each other and the accident took place on a curve at the junction while Shaikh was on the left side of the truck.
Shaikh died of severe chest injuries and minor head injury. He had a helmet, but had kept it behind the bike.
He was taken to KEM Hospital in a police vehicle where he was declared dead. The 24-year-old truck driver, Sandeep Ravidas, was arrested under Section 304 A (Causing death due to negligence) of IPC and released on bail by a magistrate’s court.
In the absence of eyewitnesses, the Wadala police has written to the Mumbai police commissioner’s headquarters to provide them with CCTV footage of the incident. Even though the Wadala police can have surveillance for any video footage, they have to write to Mumbai police commissioner Ahmad Javed.
