Chintan Upadhyay applies for bail again in Hema Upadhyay murder case
Artist Chintan Upadhyay, an accused in the double murder of his wife Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambhani, on Friday applied for bail in the Dindoshi sessions court. In Chintan’s bail application, his lawyer, Bharat Manghani has pointed out contradictions in the various statements attached with the chargesheet of the case.
Firstly, the application says that while the Ola taxi driver who ferried Chintan from Worli to Chembur on December 18 last year, two days before the murder, clarified that Chintan never stopped anywhere in between to meet anyone, the approval statement of Pradeep Rajbhar, another accused, points out that Chintan had a secret meeting with Pradeep, main accused Vidyadhar Rajbhar, and tempo driver Vijay to plan the murder.
Secondly, the bail plea states that while call records of Vidyadhar reveal the last call made by him to his mother on her mobile number was on December 12 at 21.36 hours from Dadar, Mumbai, the statement says Vidyadhar, during a telephonic conversation, told his mother he had killed Hema after Chintan told him to do so.
Thirdly, the application says while Haresh’s widow, Poonam Bhambhani, alleged Hema showed her a painting by Chintan on her mobile with the heading “I will destroy you”, no such painting has been found during investigation.
