Mumbaikars felt the sting of winter on Friday as the mercury dropped to 14.1 degrees Celsius. It was the coldest recorded day of the season. According to the predictions of the city meteorology department, Mumbai will continue to experience the same cold temperature for the next 48 hours.
The lowest minimum temperature recorded in the city on Friday was 14.1 degrees Celsius. The day was clear and dry, which made the maximum temperature rise to 31.1 degrees Celsius. Since the past two years, the city has been receiving the coldest spells in December. Last year, on December 16, the mercury plummeted almost 10 degrees in the city after a sudden shower.
“In comparison to Thursday, on Friday the temperature dropped further to 14.1 degrees Celsius. Some isolated places have also received strong cold waves that dropped the temperature further,” said V.K. Rajiv, director, India Meteorological Department.
Nashik recorded the lowest fall in temperature in Maharashtra with a record of 10 degrees Celsius. Pune and Aurangabad followed it with 16 degrees Celsius.
Dense fog is not expected in the next few days because of low moisture content in the air. As per the Met department, the temperature may rise to 16 degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours providing some relief to people. For Mumbai, the department has predicted a mainly clear sky till December 19.
The coldest chill was felt in the morning but it decreased during the daytime. Met officials said that the city has been experiencing the chill because of the in-flow of the cold waves from the north.
