The original case that led to cracking of the robbery case occurred on April 22, 2015, where a 70-year-old Sanmukhtai Ramaiya Tewal was found dead in a chawl in Sahar area. She was stabbed 13 times. Tewal used to sell country-made liquor. To solve this case, the police had interrogated 175 people and fingerprints of 97 were checked, but the case remained unsolved. Later on April 16 , officials learnt from their source that a 17-year-old under the influence of alcohol was explaining to people at a bar how Jadhav and he had killed Tewal for money and alcohol. After receiving the tip off, officials nabbed the minor who led them to Jadhav.
