Matunga police officials have interrogated around 200 cooks in a week, in a bid to find the accused that murdered a senior citizen by slitting her throat. The unidentified accused had allegedly informed the only witness who saw him that he was the cook employed by the victim.
On June 7, Manjula Vora (78) was found dead with her throat slit in her house in Matunga. Dr Dilip Shaha, Vora’s family doctor, discovered the deceased’s body first. The murder allegedly happened when Manjula’s elder brother Ravilal (85), who is mentally ill, was in the dining area.
While officials are nowhere close to identifying the murderer or his whereabouts, they are probing various leads. “We are looking at the fact that the accused informed Dr Shaha that he was a cook (Maharaj). He allegedly told the doctor that he had finished cooking and was in a hurry as he had to go to another house to cook,” said an officer.
The police made a sketch based on the description given by Dr Shaha, who is the only person who got a clear look at the accused.
