Ajay Sitaram Gaurav, whose body was one of 17 that were identified on Friday in the Mahad tragedy, was travelling in a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus from Rajapur to Borvili after having visited his sister and brother-in-law.

Dinesh Gaurav, his brother-in-law, said that Mr Gaurav was physically disabled since he had lost his right leg due to an infection when he was a child. “Despite his disability, he never took any handouts and was one of the bravest men I knew,” said Mr. Dinesh.

Meanwhile, the Vaje family — who had a total of eight family members in the Tavera car that sunk into the river — have received the bodies of only three of their relatives till now and are waiting for the rest.

“We were told that three bodies are coming in from Ambedh, and so we are waiting,” said Promodh Vaje, the nephew of Sunil Vaje, whose body, along with those of Sampada Vaje and Sampada’s paternal aunt Snehal Baikar, was found on Thursday. Other family members, like those of the MSRTC bus driver Sunil Vaikar, are still awaiting the bodies of their relatives.
