Educate kids in their mother tongue: RSS

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is now pressing for primary education of children in their respective mother tongues.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is now pressing for primary education of children in their respective mother tongues. A resolution to this effect was adopted by Akhil Bhartiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), which is the highest decision-making body of RSS, on the last day of its three-day session in Nagpur on Sunday.

The RSS was of the opinion that students educated in “foreign languages” are alienated from their culture. “A student educated in his or her mother tongue can easily grasp other languages as well. A person having elementary education in a foreign language gets alienated from his surroundings, traditions, culture and values of life. At the same time, one also loses his identity and remains ignorant of ancient knowledge, science and literature,” the resolution said.

It, however, clarified that ABPS is fully supportive of study of various languages including foreign languages.

“Bharat (India) is a multilingual country. All the Bharatiya languages equally reflect national and cultural pride of our country. Although, it is a merit to be multilingual it is scientifically expedient to impart education in mother language for developing the personality,” the resolution further said.

ABPS argued that it was both scientific and natural to impart education in the mother tongue by quoting eminent thinkers like Mahatma Gandhi, Madan Mohan Malviya, Ravindranath Tagore, Dr B.R. Ambedkar and S. Radhakrishnan along with scientists, including C.V. Raman, P.C. Ray and J.C. Bose. It also claimed that several commissions like Radhakrishnan Commission and Kothari Commission had also made such recommendations in the past.

ABPS has asked the Central government and state governments to ensure effective system in imparting education in mother language or in constitutionally recognised state languages.

The RSS has even called on the Narendra Modi-led BJP government to protect Hindus living in any part of the world. RSS general secretary Suresh Bhaiyyaji Joshi said, “Hindus residing in any country of the world need to be protected by the Central government as there is no other country for the community.”
