A 30 year-old traffic police constable was kidnapped and thrown 60-km away from Shirdi by four youngsters on Saturday afternoon. The police is on the lookout for all the four accused and has registered a case of kidnapping against them.
According to police officials, Balasaheb Batkar (30) was on traffic duty in Shirdi. He has been working with the traffic police for the past seven years. Around 12 pm, a Swift car driver could not control his speed and his car bumped into a two-wheeler motorbike. The incident led to chaos on the road near the Shirdi temple. Mr Batkar, who was manning traffic, went to the spot and caught the Swift car driver. He asked all the four sitting in the car, including the owner, to come to the police station and got into the same car. Mr Batkar asked them to drive to the police station.
SPI Shirdi Bhalchandra Shinde said, “When the police constable sat in their car, fearing arrest, they decided to roam around the city. For almost two hours they drove the car around the city and then threw the traffic cop out of the car near Sinnar road on the highway. Our police officers later reached the spot.”
The police is searching for the car and its owner. It is also searching for CCTV footages in the vicinity. The traffic cop who was kidnapped said he was unaware of the names of the accused. Police officials have started making sketches of the accused.
