‘Give Maharashtrians lion’s share in Mhada lottery’
Congress MLA Nitesh Rane has demanded that the state government have maximum reservation for Maharashtrians in flats offered by Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) via lottery system in the city.
The Mhada on Wednesday announced that it will sell 972 flats in the city, for which registrations have started on Thursday and results for the same will be announced on August 10. The purchase price is between a minimum of Rs 8 lakh to a maximum of Rs 80 lakh, of which, only 45 per cent flats available this year are ready to be moved into and get occupation certificate (OC). Flats are available in Dahisar, Borivali, Kandivali, Mulund, Mankhurd, Sion and Powai.
Moreover, Mr Rane, in a letter written to state housing minister Prakash Mehta, stated, “The Maharashtrian population is diminishing every other day and purchasing homes in tall towers in the city is not affordable for Maharashtrians. Thus, to prevent Maharashtrians from migrating out of the city, it is essential for the state to have maximum reservation for Maharashtrians in flats available via lottery system in Mhada.”
Prior to this in 2009, late Balasaheb Thackeray had also demanded that flats sold via lottery system by Mhada in the city should have reservation for Maharashtrians. Meanwhile, the Mhada has received flak for having to reserve 13 flats in the Mumbai Board lottery under the Economical Weaker Sections (EWS) and Lower Income Group (LIG) for former and sitting MP, MLA and MLCs.
