Gopinath Munde family against biopic
Kins of late BJP leader say family not consulted on Marathi film
Pankaja Munde, daughter of late BJP stalwart Gopinath Munde raised objection against Marathi movie Sangharshayatra, based on the latter’s political and family life. Ms Munde said that the producer neither took the consent of her family nor devoted time to research on the subject.
However, the producer Sanjay Singh Suryawanshi told The Asian Age that he would release the film on January 12 despite any objections. The film will be presented by BJP’s Chitrapat Union.
Sandeep Ghuge, a BJP member along with three other members had made an announcement to produce a Marathi biopic of Gopinath Munde in December 2014. Renowned Marathi actor Sharad Kelkar is playing the lead role in the movie. The movie covers Munde’s life from his days as a student leader in 1972 up to his death on June 4, 2014.
The movie was proposed to release on December 12, the birth anniversary of Munde. But his family, especially BJP minister and his daughter Pankaja had reportedly raised objection.
However, Ms Pankaja denied that she has raised objection over the movie. But, she said, “The producer did not ask permission before making a film on a political legend like my father.”
“We have to know what they will show about my father through the movie and that’s why I didn’t participate in promos of the movies,” she said.
Mr Suryawanshi said that he did not require permission of any person to produce the film. “We are ready to release the movie and on 12 January, it will be released across the state,” said Mr Singh, who is also one of the producers of the film.
